Hi, my name is Jason Towns

#stillbuilding a path to capital, connections & counsel for early stage innovators

Managing Partner @ Groundwork Ventures

Here's my story...

Jason Towns leads Groundwork Ventures, a global startup support organization and seed fund investing in overlooked entrepreneurs in both African and American emerging capital markets. Jason brings more than 15 years of experience in roles including tech founder, angel investor, inclusion advocate, and startup advisor. His deep experience building, sourcing & supporting seed stage startups as well as building inclusive local startup ecosystems has led to Jason launching national initiatives such as CODE2040's Entrepreneur in Residence Program, a Google-backed startup accelerator providing seed funding and support for founders from Black and Latinx communities. Former co-founder of Broadband.com (acquired), Jason also advises business leaders as well as tech hubs across the globe on building stronger & more inclusive startup ecosystems. Outside of programming in the states, Groundwork helps power programs in a number of other markets including South Africa where they've partnered with Unreasonable Institute and the Mzansi Commons Initiative to help transform the township economies. Jason sits on a number of advisory boards including Industrial Bank’s Emerging Leaders Advisory Council, the Congressional Research Institute of Social Work and Policy (CRISP) Board of Directors & the Releaf Advisory Board. Recent work honors include The Root's 2016 list of the 100 most influential African Americans, The Digital Diversity Network's 2016 Change Agent Award, The Registry's 2016 40 Under 40 in Silicon Valley, DC Inno’s 50 on Fire Finalist, MIPAD’s 100 most influential Black people from around the world, and a nomination from Hampton University, for the 2017 40 Under 40 distinction.
